How to Clean Fountain Pens

Posted by on Jan 1, 2014

As a lover of fountain pens, I often have more than a few pens on my writing desk. Sometimes it so happens that I get busy with other things and I don’t have the time to write much at all for days or even weeks. The result is nibs clogged with ink. What is the easiest way to clean fountain pen nibs?

Well, take a small mug of plain, cold water and add a few drops of dishwashing liquid in it. Put the barrel of the pen (if it is an eyedropper) as well as the part with the nib in the mug so both the parts remain completely immersed in the liquid. Keep them for a few hours and then flush both the barrel and the nib a few times under a tap and you are done! If you have any other kind of filling mechanism like a rubber tube or piston filler, swish the same liquid in and out a few times and it will be completely clean. Then flush with plain water to remove any residue or trace of soap.
